This is the training programme and syllabus outline for our Karuna Yoga Teaching Diploma Certificate. Each candidate has an attendance card, which they present or hand in at the end of each module. The course consists of 6 modules.
This is the training program and syllabus outline for our Karuna Yoga Teaching Diploma Certificate. Each candidate has an attendance card, which they present or hand in at the end of each module. The course consists of 6 modules.
As a student, you will need to:
establish a daily practice
continue with your weekly local class
go to a second weekly class, either at the Yoga Centre or a local class
do practical homework/reading as given in your newsletter
attend 7 days of residential for each module
complete the coursework necessary for that particular module (see syllabus)
At some point during the four modules, you will be required to complete:
a first aid course (these are held on residential weekends, usually once a year)
a term of philosophy classes or residential which lead to meditation
Forthcoming events, practice tips and bits of inspiration are announced in the regular teacher training newsletter. There are residential weekends, long Wednesdays every 2 months, long weekends and weeks spread throughout the year.
Guest speakers give talks on our residential and days and students take an active part at these lectures, which are followed with questions and answers.
Pranayama can be practised in or after savasana and before breakfast on the residential. Meditation and chanting are practised during residential and days sometimes after savasana.
Modules gradually become more demanding and include:
1st Module
Students will be given the whole syllabus.
Students are required to:
establish a daily practice, this is the 1st and most important requisite
obtain the 6 set books for study during the course (Ruth will have your books at the initial assessment)
attend talks given on Anatomy & Physiology
submit the Anatomy Questionnaire
Personal Assessment (Students are not assessed on “A” advanced asanas until Module 6)
2nd Module
Students are required to:
familiarise yourselves with the Sanskrit names
take out insurance cover (see below)
attend talks on Mudras and Bandhas
practise deep breathing 10 minutes a day (if not practising Pranayama)
continue a daily yoga practise
3rd Module
Students are required to:
complete and submit the Professional Teaching Paper
continue to learn Sanskrit names, practise Pranayama & begin Ujjayi breathing. Then Viloma and Bramhari
Personal Assessment, including Ujjaui, Pranayama
4th Module
Students undertake:
the practise of teaching students;
begin to work towards the ‘A’ advanced postures
the practice of Bhastrika and Alternate Nasal breathing from now on.

5th Module
Students are required to
answer the Postures Questionnaire
attend talks to include Kriyas
practice the ”A” advanced postures according to ability
Teaching Assessment & Personal Assessment.
6th Module
Students are requested to:
answer the Philosophy Questionnaire
learn the ‘A’ advanced postures (aids to be used if necessary)
Teaching & Personal Assessment for final certification.
6th Module practical assessments are taken by senior qualified teachers: Ruth moderates. A maximum of 5 trainee students can take their assessment at any one time.
This is a practical course that lifts the heart and spirit. It is a natural progression that when you love your yoga so much, your love overflows and you want to share it with others.
Once you’re ready to embark on teacher training send us the initial £200 registration fee and the completed preliminary questionnaire (cheques payable to R White) with a passport photograph attached. With this correspondence, please let us know when you would like to attend either a teacher training class, a yoga day, or a residential weekend so that Ruth can assess where you would fit in prior to starting the course. This is also a good opportunity to meet Ruth and your fellow teachers in training and discuss the course content.
The buffet brunch after yoga offers a great variety of delicious and healthy food for all tastes, from English breakfast to an assortment of vegetarian dishes. The evening meal is not included in the package.
The hotel offers an excellent 3-course buffet dinner for additional cost for guests who would like to dine in. There are also many local tavernas offering delicious daily caught fish.

To reserve, a security deposit of 25% of the total price is required. The security deposit is non-refundable if you cancel your reservation. The remainder of the payment is due 30 days prior to your arrival.
