Laura Shanks’s Bio
Originally from New York, Laura came to yoga over 15 years ago through dance. At the advice of a dance teacher, she began a regular Bikram practice that soon evolved into a personal practice of her own. Over time, and through experimentation with various styles of yoga, her practice blossomed beyond the physical, becoming an all encompassing, spiritual practice. She has completed a 200 hour TTC in Classical Hatha Yoga and Meditation at an Ashram in Lake Atitlan, Guatemala, as well as a 300 hour & 100 hour plus TTC in Ashtanga Vinyasa here at Kranti Yoga. Having fallen in love with Ashtanga Vinyasa, she went on to complete a TTC with Kristina Karitinou-Ireland on the Full Primary Series and practiced with senior Ashtanga teachers, David Williams, Radha and Pierre, Louise Ellis & Tina Pizzimente.
A self proclaimed “yoga nerd,” Laura’s daily practice includes not only Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, but expands off the mat to traditional forms of yoga including Bhakti, Nada, Kriya, Raja, Jnana, and Karma, as well as Adviata Vedanta.
A journalism major in college, Laura’s inquisitive nature gave way to a strong interest in philosophy and self inquiry, with a passion for writing. When she’s not on the mat, she continues to study the yogic philosophical and Ayurvedic principles that have transformed her life.
As a former fashion publicist, she now uses her communication skills and love for Kranti Yoga to help with the development and growth of the Shala whilst visiting us often to deepen her own practice, knowledge and teaching skills and sharing this knowledge with the Kranti village community. - sat chit ananda
