Indigenous heritage is very much alive in the Yucatan area. It’s estimated that around 60% of the population of Merida is of Mayan heritage. Culture is so many things, but one of them is how you can taste it in the food, see it in local people and their customs, names, and dresses, sweat it out at Temazcal ceremony, or you can marvel at it when visiting one of many of the ancient Mayan city ruins like Uxmal, Chichen Itza, or Cobá.
