Woods Sasan, in the state of Gujarat is a sustainably crafted property that is designed as per the biophilic principles of design. To put simply, a biophilic design puts nature in the centre to create refreshing spaces that look and feel natural to a larger extent. Woods Sasan is built around an eight-acre mango orchard with more than two hundred trees. The spaces of Woods Sasan allow passage of natural light and present unfettered views of Gir forest.
While the air in the resort has 33% less carbon dioxide than the city air, the resort’s soil is organic and free from any chemical fertilizers. Woods Sasan follows a destination first approach under which it intends to bring out the flavour of Gujarat by employing local staff and using locally sourced materials in design, décor and architecture. By following a destination first approach, Woods Sasan helps in enabling the growth of the local economy to a considerable degree. All the rooms here offer lush forest or garden views and come with a private outdoor terrace and floor to ceiling windows.
The resort has minimized its carbon footprint architecturally through intelligent design practices such as using natural lime plaster and bamboo-based products. Its design intervention has reduced one’s exposure to scorching afternoon heat resulting in energy savings by 26%. The resort has also minimised plastic use by 90%. Its wellness space SOM has relaxing rooms that smell of calming oils and spices. At SOM, one can indulge in a variety of massages, body wraps or practice yoga asanas, pranayama – and Yoga Nidra. Woods Sasan has an edible garden that is replete with herbs. A lot of oils and powders used at SOM are made using herbs grown at this garden; thereby integrating the ancient medicinal philosophy of Vanausadhi: medicines of the forest, in the treatments offered at SOM.
