Jennifer Rebecca Wong’s Bio

Jennifer Rebecca Wong, the embodiment of East-meets-West!  She’s a Canadian yogini with European and Asian descent, interested in the exploration of ancient eastern yoga traditions viewed through the lens of modern western cognitive and contemplative neurosciences.

In 1999, a family tragedy led to a shift in her life path, from classical piano performance to the study of neuroplasticity, and the therapeutic uses of music and movement. During her studies in behavioural neuroscience, she became fascinated with the nascent field of contemplative neuroscience and began to develop a daily asana, meditation, and pranayama practice.  When she discovered ashtanga, it was love at first practice!

The yoga practice had had transformational and healing effects on her life and bereavement process.  And she is truly grateful for the inspirational people who offered their gems of wisdom during that time.  Over the years, she practiced with:  Ron Reid, Chuck Miller, Maty Ezraty, Rolf & Marci Naujokat, the Puri siblings at Santosh Puri Ashram, Saraswhati Jois, Eddie Stern, Manju Jois.  Her current mentors are: John Scott and Nancy Gilgoff.

During her second trip to India, she stayed at an ashram for two months where she realized her path and duty:  to share the beautiful practice of yoga.  Over the last decade, she participated in over 1000hrs of yoga teacher trainings and development sessions, consistently seeking out lineage teachers to get closer to the source.  The art of teaching remains her strongest passion.  In yoga, she brings an emphasis on an individualized approach which she developed in her over 25 years experience in teaching, adjudicating, and mentoring in the classical music field.

Jennifer spent the greater part of the last three years in India, and truly feels India to be a second home.  She discovered that yoga is a lifestyle and the benefits of the practice, which are many, generalize to every aspect of life and she is grateful for each day she can share the beautiful practice with others.  In her classes, students are guided with love, compassion, and humour, to honour themselves and to nurture a sustainable, life long yoga practice. She’s looking forward to meeting and joining you on your yoga journey.

Jennifer Rebecca Wong is a long term Kranti Yoga student who visits us often to deepen her own practice, knowledge, and teaching skills and share her knowledge with the Kranti village community.
