Stand-up paddle boarding retreats and adventures around the globe combining SUP with yoga, mountain biking, surfing, climbing and more for a truly adventurous escape.
During this week you are going to explore Sri Lanka’s waterways to the fullest by SUP. Starting on the gentle, mangrove lined rivers and lagoons on your doorstep where you can witness the world change during sunrise and sunset. Two days paddling on the Indian Ocean to gorgeous beaches and exploring temples. Testing your SUP skills in the surf, trying to catch some turquoise waves. All of these activities are complemented with daily yoga including SUP Yoga, Aerial, Vinyasa, Yin, and guided meditation.
Day 1
Arrival. Your room will be ready for you from midday. Kev and Ylva will be around to welcome you and show you your home for the week. Spend your first afternoon exploring local beaches, lunch spots or just lounging by the pool listening to the jungle sounds. Yin yoga and meditation before delicious dinner in the pavillion to meet your fellow SUP’ers for the week.
Day 2
The best time to get on the river is just before sunrise to view the day come alive. The Duwa Island river sunrise paddle through the mangroves. Breakfast is served at 9:30 a.m. every day to fuel you for whatever adventure you plan for the day. In the afternoon you practice the fun and surprisingly easy Aerial yoga suspended from the beams of the open air tropical shala.
Day 3
Wake up and roll right into an invigorating Vinyasa class. After breakfast you hop in the van to Dewata Bay, 25 minutes west. From there you paddle across to Jungle Beach for some snorkelling, a climb up the hill to visit the Japanese Peace Pagoda Temple and also to view a ship which was wrecked on the rocks a few years ago. Small shacks on the beach serve a surprisingly varied lunch menu as well as cold beers and cocktails. You’ll be back at the bay in time to see the sunset.
Day 4
Your first of two SUP Surf lessons. Time to test your skills in the surf as we head to a local break to catch some waves. These sessions are the most affected by Mother Nature so they may change to another day or time depending on the surf and weather forecast. At sunset you'll be back on the river for a SUP yoga experience. The change in the sights and sounds of the surrounding jungle are mesmerising.
Day 5
Grab some fruit and coffee, you’re up at the crack of dawn when the Indian Ocean is at its glassy best. You had a good taste of catching some waves yesterday, now it’s time to build more on those skills learned and pose for that shot! That evening Firelight SUP yoga will stretch out those muscles you used this morning and provide a truly magical experience.
Day 6
You’ll paddle the length of one of the most beautiful bays in Sri Lanka, Mirissa. Leaving the tourists behind you paddle around the headland to Secret Beach where you can snorkel, eat, drink or just while away the afternoon.
Day 7
Feel free to lie in or join in Ylva's morning Hatha class. The day is yours until your final paddle of the week at 4 p.m. Starting on the Duwa River you will paddle out into the Indian Ocean to land on Devil's Island. A jungle covered rock that feels prehistoric. On the way back you’ll stop off at Mangalika’s house for a sunset coconut or cold beer. Duwa river sunsets boast glorious colours and the perfect place to witness huge fruit bats heading out to feed for the night.
Day 8
Morning Vinyasa and meditation followed by your final breakfast with SUP Escapes. Checkout from Nirbana is at 11 a.m. SUP Escapes can organise a transfer back to the airport, wave you off to continue your further Sri Lankan adventures or enquire with them to extend your stay. You may never want to leave.
Discover one of the last wild rivers of Europe, The Tara. High level whitewater SUP coaches will lead you down rapids up to Class III through Europe's deepest canyon and an UNESCO World Heritage Site. We'll camp under the stars on the riverbank and eat delicious locally sourced food.
