Over the Years of working as a full-time yoga teacher, teaching thousands of group and private yoga classes, offering women’s circles, selfcare retreats and yoga teacher trainings I experienced over and over that it can be quite a challenge to establish yourself as a professional in an industry that is often undervalued and where many teach as a hobby. There are so many teachers out there offering classes at non-sustainable rates, that a lot of teachers seem lost at how to establish themself as a business. How to find adequate pricing, how to find students, how to stand out with your offerings and how to actually make a living from your profession as a yoga teacher. A little spoiler beforehand, you should not only make a living from teaching yoga full time, you should be able to live comfortably from it too. It’s a wonderful profession that helps so many to reconnect with themselves and that should be reflected in your bank account. If people are accepted to be wealthy from bringing harm into this world (e.g. alcohol, processed food and weapon industry), if they are accepted to be wealthy from having neutral professions (e.g. real estate, designer, restaurant owners) and if they are accepted to be wealthy from doing good (e.g. doctors, therapists) why on earth was the image created that those that teach Yoga are suppose to be underpaid because they love what they do and because they are spiritual. As a spirtual being our birthright is abundance not poverty. You can not be of service as a yoga teacher if your basic needs such as financial stability aren’t met and if you are full of worry how to pay your bills. Even if you are not providing for your living because you have a partner or parents that take care of that you should charge the right prices to have a balanced energy exchange. I am an experienced yoga teacher (E-RYT 500) with a passion for both the magic and embodiment of yoga as well as the business of it. With a degree in economics and running my own business since 2016, I understand the challenges of establishing yourself as a full-time yoga teacher. This can involve the economic side of it and it can also be quite a challenge to start teaching after you completed your first trainings. It takes quite a lot of courage to put yourself out there and step onto the mat in front of everyone with the teacher hat on.
