Hatha yoga is a branch of yoga that focuses on physical postures (asanas) and breathing exercises (pranayama) to promote physical strength, flexibility, balance, and mental clarity. The word "hatha" itself is derived from the Sanskrit words "ha" (sun) and "tha" (moon), representing the union of opposites.
In Hatha yoga practice, the emphasis is on achieving a balance between the body and mind through various physical poses and controlled breathing techniques. It is often seen as a foundational form of yoga that provides a solid base for other, more advanced yoga practices.
Hatha yoga classes typically include a series of asanas (poses) and pranayama exercises, and they may also incorporate meditation and relaxation techniques.
The practice is accessible to people of various fitness levels and is often used as a means to improve overall health and well-being. While Hatha yoga places importance on physical postures, it also recognizes the interconnectedness of the body, mind, and breath in promoting holistic health.
