Mokum Surf Club will be taking the guests to different spots in the nearby area with their English-speaking surf guides. The Pavones area has many surf breaks suitable for beginners, intermediates, and advanced surfers. Whether you don’t have that much experience yet or would like to improve your intermediate skills, the surf guides are here to help you every day.
The guests will be giving Pavones a go as well, so hopefully, you can return with big grins on your faces telling everyone that you surfed the best wave of your life. You will also be surfing tropical waters, so no wetsuit is needed!
It doesn’t matter if you have never ridden a horse in your life or grew up as a true ponygirl because this horseback trip will be a lifetime memory. The guests will take the horses out into the mountains, and into the beautiful indigenous reserve of Punta Banco that borders the jungle, which is the wild and untamed beach towards Panama. You’ll see nature at its best and discover places where hardly anyone sets foot.
The guests will take the boat to the other side of the Golfo Dulce. The other side is also well known as the Osa Peninsula, one of the most biodiverse places in the world. Depending on the waves, you will have a surf session, enjoy your breakfast on a deserted beach, and chase waterfalls to cool down a bit. During this trip, you might be able to spot different kinds of monkeys, toucans, parrots, turtles, dolphins, and maybe even some humpback whales.
The local community of Punta Banco is closely involved in protecting the turtles that come to shore to lay their eggs yearly. The first turtles will come to shore around July to drop hundreds of eggs in the black sands of Playa Punta Banco. Unfortunately, eating turtle eggs has been a delicacy for decades in Costa Rica, which means that poachers are also attracted by this phenomenon. The people of Punta Banco walk up and down the beach every night to protect those turtles from poachers. You will be able to join them in small groups on one of these walks from July to October.
The guests might be able to see one of the four different types of turtles that visit this beach, or if they're really lucky, then they might see the baby turtles being released into the ocean from September until January.
Keep in mind that these are wild animals, so even though it might be turtle season there will never be a guarantee of seeing them. Also, always respect nature and keep your distance.
In case the guests are worried about the food, then please don’t. The Mokum Surf Club are absolute food addicts. The holiday wouldn’t even be close to perfect if the food wasn’t delicious.
During the Costa Rica retreat, the guests will be well taken care of in the food department.
After the morning surf or yoga session, they can dive into an abundant breakfast of freshly squeezed juices, fruits from the garden, homemade bread, yogurt and granola with a side of eggs, or some traditional pinto.
Lunch will be a delicious vegetarian dish. How about some quesadillas, grilled veggie wraps, or couscous salad? They will make sure those hungry surf bellies will be satisfied.
After a beautiful sunset and a long day of awesome experiences, there’s nothing better than to join a dinner table. A daily changing menu of both local and western dishes, and always with plenty of veggies and salad will be the perfect end to another perfect day.
