Day 1: Saturday - Welcome to Costa Rica
Arrive at San José Airport and drive to Turrialba Valley (Guayabo Lodge). You will meet your private guide/driver outside the airport and be transported to Turrialba Valley, where you will spend your first night.
Please arrive on an early afternoon flight to Juan Santamaria International Airport in San Jose (SJO) no later than 13:00. If you decide to arrive a day earlier, SUP YO can arrange to pick up at your hotel and group departure from SJO will be planned for 14:00 on arrival day.
Once you arrive at the hotel, you will have a dinner/orientation where you will be debriefed about the week ahead and have a chance to get to know the rest of the group.
Day 2: Sunday - Canyoneering tour Pacuare river (Pacuare Outdoor Center Camp)
Today is a full day of adventure and fun! The day will begin with breakfast and packing your bags, as the group will be moving hotels and heading to the Pacuare Outdoor Center. National Geographic has listed Pacuare as one of the best and most scenic rivers in the world for rafting.
On the way to the lodge, you will experience a canyoneering adventure where you hike down a canyon and then rappel down three different waterfalls. These waterfalls range in height from 20 to 100' high!
After canyoneering, the group will make a stop in a small town along the way to enjoy lunch and recharge before the day of rafting begins.
Once the food has settled, the group will drive for 20 minutes to the Pacuare River, known as one of the best places in the world for whitewater rafting. You will then raft for 2 hours to arrive at the Pacuare Outdoor Center Lodge; located in one of the most remote sections of the Pacuare River!
On arrival, you will take a short hike to the lodge where you will be reunited with your luggage and can relax to the sounds of the jungle.
In the evening, your same raft guides will prepare dinner while you relax at the lodge and reconnect with nature.
Day 3: Monday - Yoga, zipline, Tarzan swing and waterfall nature hike (Pacuare Outdoor Center Camp)
The group will start the day with a sunrise yoga class. The views will be spectacular over the river canyon.
Today you will view and experience the Pacuare River from a whole new level...from hundreds of feet up on the infamous Tarzan swing and zipline course! A lower platform is available for those interested in a slightly less adventurous swing.
After all the swinging, and zip-lining, the group will hike for approximately one hour, down into the canyon, to a beautiful waterfall where the group will have a chance to slide in and have some fun!
During the evening, you can relax around the lodge.
Day 4: Tuesday - Rafting Pacuare Canyon and travel to Caribbean Coast (Almonds and Corals Hotel)
Today will begin by rafting through the tropical rainforest; you will pass by canyon walls that rise 300' and pristine 200' waterfalls that fall into the river. This area is considered one of the most scenic areas of Costa Rica!
From here, the drive to the south Caribbean coast will begin, where the jungle meets the sea! This unique area of Costa Rica is very much rich in culture, with no high rises like you might find on the pacific coast. Also, this time of year, at the end of October, is considered an ideal time to visit as the rain lightens up.
The day will close out with yoga and dinner.
Day 5: Wednesday - Yoga class and SUP (Almonds and Corals Hotel)
After morning yoga and breakfast, you will explore the Caribbean coast. Spend the morning on paddleboards, and enjoy the clear blue waters of the Caribbean, near Punta Uva - voted one of the most beautiful beaches in Costa Rica.
Lunch is a traditional dish of rice and beans cooked in coconut milk, one of the most delicious dishes you will ever eat according to the locals.
Relax during the afternoon, take a surf lesson, visit the local and vibrant town of Puerto Viejo, or walk along more beaches. Choose your own adventure this afternoon! Dinner on own.
Day 6: Thursday - Travel to Arenal volcano area (Arenal Manoa Hotel)
Say goodbye to the coast and begin the drive to the northern plains, home of Arenal volcano. Arenal Volcano is an active volcano that is perfectly cone-shaped and measures at least 1,633 metres high with a crater 140 metres in diameter.
This will be the final hotel/destination of the trip. In the evening, you may relax in the onsite hot springs of the Arenal Manoa Hotel, where every room has breathtaking views of the volcano.
Day 7: Friday - Hike Arenal Lake (Arenal Manoa Hotel)
Today you will hike, with a naturalist, to the Arenal Volcano. On this 2-hour hike, your guide will explain the history of the volcano and give you a chance to visit different geological formations. It is a moderate hike with mixed terrain where you may need to scramble in some areas.
You will hike through the Lava Flow trail from the 1968 eruption, traverse into the rainforest and enjoy 360° viewpoints of the Arenal Volcano accompanied by the breathtaking Arenal Lake.
Get lunch in the town of La Fortuna and a chance to stroll around town and buy some coffee or souvenirs. In the afternoon you will relax at the hotel and then get ready for the evening festivities that they have planned to celebrate the final night of this unforgettable adventure.
The farewell dinner will be held at a local family-owned farm where you will experience an authentic one-of-a-kind dinner that the family will cook for the group.
If there is time for a nice restorative yoga class this evening, the group will stretch out before a long flight home tomorrow. This will be determined by how late the group returns home from dinner this evening.
Day 8: Saturday - Departures
Today you will be transferred to the SJO airport and the group will be departing as a group at 07:30 from Arenal Manoa and arriving at SJO airport at 10:00. This allows time for a mid-day departure. If you must book an earlier flight, we can set up a transfer for you to get to SJO earlier.
