Ayurveda says pain is caused by the aggravation of Vata (air) dosha. Accumulation of Ama (toxic by-product of improper digestion) causes Arthritis. Ama is known to deposit at sites that are weaker in the body and when this happens in the joint it results in Amavata or arthritis.
