The Background

The small island of Lamu is the perfect amalgamation of immense natural beauty and African culture. This land has retained its old world charm and is like a fairy tallish anachronism in the modern world with no cars, pollution or stress. The festival was first organised in 2014 and it was conceived by Monika Fauth, the owner of Banana House, a wellness centre in Lamu; along with Kelly Alomba, a yoga instructor of the same centre. The objective was to promote Lamu as the perfect wellness destination, as its natural beauty and organic lifestyle makes it an ideal spot for immersing oneself in yoga practices.

The event is supported by the Lamu administration to promote the island in the field of international tourism and projecting it as a land of festivals. This yoga festival in Kenya also ensures to address the economic and social well being of the residents of the island and encourages visitors to donate for some worthy charitable efforts in the area. The project collaborates with the dedicated team of Safari Doctors who work towards the enhancement of healthcare in the area and with other social and developmental organisations like Anidan.
